Right size propeller for 78 Hunter 27

In the recent issue of Sail, Dave Gerr has an article on sailing screws. After using his formulas, it seems my boat prop is too small for the Yanmar GM2 (8 hp) to bring it up to hull speed. I can only get 4.5 knots maximum with the prop that came with the boat. Does anyone have any experiences with this problem . Thanks

Right Prop

Friend has a 27 Hunter with 8 hp Yanmar. Check to see if you have a 13x9 or not. That is what the specs on this site call for. He had a 12 x 8 when he got it, put on a 13x 9 and now goes and stops. Check to see what yours is stamped. Most have it stamped on the shaft section.

GM2?

Isn't the GM2 the two banger with 13/14 horses? I have a H27 and come with a 1GM, 7.5 HP@ 3600 rpm... Aldo alozano@monmouth.com
