Right place

Sometimes right place right time just happens. Left Atlantic City yesterday at 0330 and headed to NYC. Sun was coming up and we looked back at the city. NYC at the end of a long day.

End of a long day is right - the last piece of the antenna at #1 WTC had just been set. The taller of the two tower cranes had to be climbed to reach, guyed, the antenna set, then climbed back down, all over a few day window. And you have a pic of it from the water right after it had been set. :dance:

Here are a couple more pics you can share. The first is the lower of the two cranes lifting the spire to the temporary platform a couple of weeks ago. A special winch drum had to be made to do this, as the crane couldn't spool enough wire rope for the pick with the standard drum. This pic was taken from the taller of the two tower cranes.

The second is the taller of the two, after self-climbing a good bit higher and being guyed to the building (an unusual thing to do, but this was a special case), lifting the spire from the temporary platform for placement on top.

The whole thing will be clad for appearance eventually.

I don't mean to hijack the thread, but you came to town on a pretty big day, and got a shot of an historic event - right when the building grew to 1776 ft.

The credit for the pics goes to my wife who was unzipping the vinyl and hanging out of the cockpit while I was at the helm holding steady against 3-5 foot rollers SSE at 8 seconds. She was using an old Optio Pentax that rarely shows the digital image so you have to view through the peep site. The rest of the math and celestial planning against a building of glass oriented along a street is a bit more than I could do in my head, but the locals must see this every day. Just wanted to share.

Thanks again, my friends will appreciate the info. BTW that's Heron in front of us, we have been cruising together since last Sept. Too bad Roger stayed in Chesapeake City when we met up a few days back. This is my other sailing buddy Our Little Cape in Port Washington, NY last night. Sailing is only half the fun.
