Pearson 30 Wanderer NA
I have a 1967 Pearson Wanderer (30') that needs new rigging. Since the boat is now a lake boat (Lake Guntersville in North Alabama) I thought I would replace the rigging peace meal so that I could keep on sailing. I took the measurements and called West Marine Rigging and ordered two wires (both side stays). They got the wires to me in four days; unfortunately they had the wrong sized clevis pins. I called them to get instructions on how to send them back. Though I followed the instructions, the package got lost at West Marine and did not make it to the rigging shop until after 2 and a half weeks. A week and a half after they got the wires, I got them back. They changed the hardware on the lower end of the stays to use the correct size pins but they neglected to change the upper ends. Also, measuring the stays, I descovered that one of the stays was too short. To make a long story short, I called West Marine Rigging and said that I didn't want to do bussiness with them because I didn't want to have to go through this ordeal every time I change out a couple of wires. They said that they will refund my money and the price I paid for shipping--wonderful. I now need to find a reputable rigger. Any suggestions? I heard sail net is good. Also, I have sta-lok terminals on my old rigging. They still look like they are in good condition. What do y'all think of me re-using my sta-loks and just replacing the wire? Words of wisom would be greatly appreciated.

I would replace it all

I am certainly no expert, but I would not take a chance on re-using any of the standing rigging. Something about a chain and a weakest link? I feel very comfortable doing almost everything on my boat, but monkeying with the standing rigging is something I will happily part with my money for someone else to do - the consequences of screwing it up are pretty severe. You could probably keep the sta-locks (or some of the old rigging) for an emergency repair. Good luck.

Staloks are reusable but you

will need to purchase new cone wedges for them. Staloks cost about 30 bucks each and the advantage is their reusability. Do a search for stalok /Norseman for technical information.

Use the sta-loks

I really like the sta-lock/norseman systems. If it were me I'd just order some wire and new cones and build my own. The wire isn't that expensive, it's the fittings and labor that make up most of the cost. Sta-loks make it easy and economical for the sailor to change out or repair the rigging himself.
