When my Oday is in a slip what is proper tension on the side, front and back stays. Are there some general gudielines to follow? Also sometimes while jibbing the boom gets caought in the back stay before jib is complete. Is this a coomon experience or have I got something rigged wrong> Thanks a lot for any information. Chuck

tension headache

when you gybe you boom is hitting the backstay because it is allowed to rise upwards where it then interfere's with the shorter distance between the stay and the mast. You need a boomvang to hold down the boom, these are easy to rig and install so go get one and install it. As far as rig tension it depends on the size of the wire in the rigging. Get a Loos tension gage which will provide basic instructions and then once rough set with the gage you will need to sail the boat and make adjustments. Best of luck Dave

tippy canoe and topping lift too

Chuck- The vang will help most but you must fully release the topping lift on the boom for complete free movement of the boom. Incidetally the "side stays" are commonly referred to as "shrouds". Don't know why, they just are. Good luck, Mike

gybing

Are you sheeting the boom in as get ready to gybe then letting the sheet run out as you gybe? The vang will help but doesn't seem necessary at least on my Oday 23
