rigging help
Hi Sam;Cape Cod Ship Builders probably would have a booklet with information, but you can find plenty free of charge on this site, and the Yahoo site for ODay owners. If you like to have a book in hand, your local library probably has books about sailboats with pitures and/or diagrams of rigging layouts. Time-Life Books did a nice series back in the '70's. That's just one of many. The rigging is pretty straight forward once you take a few minutes to look at some pictures and identify the various pieces. Just be sure you have all the bits & pieces for fastening to the deck before trying to sail. The slime on the hull is more a matter of appearance in your case. It's nice to keep the hull as clean as possible for pride of ownership. If you get serious about racing some day, then you'll want to keep the slim off for the slight improvement in speed you might gain.If you will be leaving the boat in saltwater instead of fresh, you'll want to use bottom paint to slow the growth, thereby improving appearance and performance, and decreasing cleanup time at the end of the season.Don't get discouraged. Get some books at the library, surf the net in the evenings, and find a few other local sailors who will be happy to help you get the hang of things. Sailing is a wonderful recreational activity.
