Ruth and I are looking at a larger boat and it might need to have the standing rigging replaced, which would be beyond my capabilities. The boat isn't in the states now, but I would like to get an estimate on what this would cost before we go any further.

Can anyone recommend/suggest a place to call on the Gulf Coast, Florida west coast or the SE coast for a 'guesstimate'.

The boat is a 37 foot Endeavour Ketch.

Thanks,

Sum

Sum:

A friend just ordered new standing rigging from Seco South for a Hunter 376. The total price for the rigging was $1600. They are the OEM mfg for Hunter.

Seco south is also the OEM for Island Packet. http://www.secosouth.com
They have excellent customer service too. I did the rigging on my last boat. It wasn't hard at all. I had the mast dropped for me. Then I removed all the rigging sent it to Seco...they replicated it and shipped it all back to me. I set everything up and had the yard put up the mast and connect the pins. Then I tuned it. Good luck.

I pulled this source out of the Endeavor Owners Site http://www.endeavourowners.com.... might be worth the cost of a call to get a real estimate from a pro.

Sumner, I have changed the standing and running rigging on my boat myself. It is not difficult if you have no fear of going up the mast and have someone to crank you up. I'd be glad to lend you a hand... where is this boat, btw?

If you have a rigging company do it, count on the big bucks...probably $5k. If you can find an independent, single operator rigger it will be less, maybe $3k. If you do it yourself the savings will be tremendous. Someone with your mechanical skills AND light body weight would have no problem. heh, heh.

I've used Zern Rigging in Pensacola, FL, very good rigger who works all over the US and the Caribbean. His website is www zernrigging com. I have no connection with him, other than as a satisfied customer.

That said, I agree with Joe, above, that a pro rigger will run big bucks. I've done some work on my current boat (32', schooner rigged) with Norseman-type fittings and that's the way I'll go in the future, once you get the hang of assembling the fittings it's not that bad a job, you just do one piece at a time and follow prudent practices for alternate bracing of the rig each time you take a piece off, and going up the mast(s).

Thanks guys, this has been a big help. I madeup and put all new rigging on our Mac this year except had the forestay done since it is swagged to the turnbuckle end, but the mast comes down easy on the boat and it has light rigging.

I didn't think about having a yard take down the mast and then removing all the rigging and have it copied. It looks like that might be a good deal.

I thought I would have to do the one piece at at time and even though I don't have much fear of heights wasn't too keen on that. Thanks Joe for the offer with that though, sounds like you want to go back to Florida ;). I'll PM you about the boat we are looking at and thanks for the link to the other one. Also if we keep meeting at Joe's Crab Shack my weight will be going up .

I'll have to admit to something stupid about it and sorry to you guys that live in Maine and Mass. I looked at that boat the other day and saw the MA and my mind said Maine and I felt that was too far, so dismissed it. I'll think more about it. If it is still there in March might go see it as I'll be at my sister's in Conn.

I'll be doing some calling tomorrow to get some estimates. Also thanks to all of you who helped me with listing some marinas and ramps in the keys. I have all that info down.

c ya,

Sum

I do not think you can purchase the parts cheap enough to match the price that Seco charges.

I just had them make up new double life lines (vinyl coated) with Johnson over-center pelican hooks (5 each) for $375.00. A good price for the pelican hooks is $40 each ($200). So the price for the lines amounted to $175 without the hooks. The wire would have cost me over $200 if purchased from W/M.

PS: It is our knowledge that the cable that Seco uses is made in South Korea (not China).

Sum I would second a vote for Rigging Only, I have used them and they really gave me confidence in their work, very professional. Note all the wire they use is made in USA and has been tested.

They made up our forestay also and I bought all my wire, sleeves, etc. from them when I made up the shrouds and backstay. They are good people. I just wonder about the price if I had to send them the current rigging. I'd feel better if whoever made up the rigging actually had the old rigging, but maybe that isn't necessary.

Thanks,

Sum

I`m thinking about you and a 37 ft. boat. That`s a whole lot of room for you to fill with gadgets, gizmo`s,brackets and just about rearange the whole boat. You won`t have much time left for sailing..;)

Sum,
This fellow is an independent rigger in St. Pete. Might call him for a quote.
