Rigging Question

We are new to the world of sailing and the previous owner of our boat isn't available to ask questions. We hired someone to help deliver her to harbor and she was unsure of how the rigging was to be setup. We came up with the configuration in the picture. After taking her out last weekend I don't think we have it set properly. There's a spring loaded wheel that is rubbing against the traveller. A couple pieces have broken off (it's probably brittle from age) and it just doesn't look right. I could use an expert eye.

She's a 1984 First 38 and the original owner did some racing.

Hard to tell exactly from the angle of the picture, but it looks to me the mainsheet line (I think that is what it is called) is not installed properly. It looks like you have 3 pulleys under the boom and I wonder if the line on the bottom of the picture should go thru the pulley closest to it rather than farther away?

You should ask some other people in your marina who can see it in person.

I have an '84 First 38, and you've got it exactly like mine. The rubbing might go away if you reversed the order of the boom blocks (deadend to the aft block, etc.) Mine are in the order shown and I've never noticed rubbing.
