I am getting ready to prep the boat for the season, and need new lines for my Jib (there weren't any when I bought the boat).What type of line do I need for the Jib and how long should each leg be? Also, what thickness should it be? My boat is an Oday 22, and all lines should run to the cockpit for singlehanded sailing.I have a soft spot on my deck just aft of the starboard standing rigging stanchions. Should I worry about this now, or wait till next season? the spot is about a foot long, most likely due to heavy snowfall that made its way under the tarp when it melted. Thanks,Ken

sta-set

If good enough is what you're looking for, I suggest sta-set. Sta-set x supposedly has a little less stretch that may be worth the few dollars extra expense for each line. I have to change mine too from the old 1/4 inch whatever lines that were on when I bought the boat because they are literally a PAIN! I'll be using softer 5/16 inch line. You probably want 60-65 foot lines if you are running them back to the cockpit.

Ken, the length depends on how you will rig the sheets. On larger boats I crew on we use bowlines but for the 23 ..... the simpler knot works fine James

Mauri Pro Sailing

Go on to the Mauri Pro Sailing website. There are line selection guides for each line manufacturer that will tell you exactly what you need. There are even pre-made sets with shackle in the recommended length. I am using a combination of Sta-set and Sta-set Plus with a little Sampson thrown-in to completely re-outfit my 23'. I am using color coding to help designate which lines are for the RF, which the spinnaker, when the main, etc. Mauri's service was great. CVP

Halyard or Sheets?

If its the halyard 5/16 line(stay set) is great, probably about 55 feet. Halyard will have a spliced loop and a shackle, about $50 at Rudy's DR Marine...If its the jib sheet, 5/16 or 3/8 is OK probably about 60 feet. Can get on Ebay for about .45 a foot...

I got all new lines a few tears back from rudy at d/r marine and was very happy with both the price and the materials . I really do not think you can buy and set them up for less than he charges
