I bought a 25 foot O'day this Spring. It does not have the lines to raise the main and jib run back to the cockpit area. They currently just run down the mast where they tie off. Has anyone made this modification/update that could give me some pointers? I have replaced the lines and have plenty of length now. I just need to install the hardware to get the lines to where I can reach them. Thanks so much!

David, I did mine last year. I have hank on headsails. So everytime I use the lines run aft I think, "Did I really need to do that?" Its nice to drop the head sail from the cockpit but my main requires a bit of coaxing. I have to hank on and attach the haylards each time so afterwards I wonder was it worth it. ANYWAY, you will find photos in the archives under lines run aft. I put an organizing plate under the mast. It has a "wing" on either side of the mast with 3 holes in each "wing". To these are connected two blocks on swivels then as close to the hand rail as you can get is a three line organizer to turn from the 90 degree turn at the base of the mast back towards the stern. This is trickier than it looks. You want the organizer not to be running straight bow to stern but angled with he stern end angled back towars the center of the boat a little. This will keep lines from binding on each other as they leave the organizer. Mine is still a bit too close to the cabin roof slide. I hate the idea of drilling more holes in my otherwise solid boat. Then you'll probably want a rope clutch on the aft end of the cabin roof to hold the lines RMEMEBER TO LEAVE ENOUGH ROOM FOR A WINCH I barely did. I don't have a winch there and don't find it necessary right now. Might be handy to reduce sail in heavy air but . . . The hardest part was the organizer under the mast. It was the first time I had the mast down and I did it on the water. Moving boat, moving mast, many new dance steps. I bought all the hardware except the plate under the mast from Ruddy. No troubles. Mike: Where did you get the winged plate that you put under the mast? This would seem to be the secret to this project. Also, how much height did this plate add? Were you able to use the same running rigging by just letting out the turnbuckles? Thanks.

But then I remembered the boat folder in my favorites section of the web browser. Look at WWW.dwyermast.com. Go to sailboat hardware then halyard organizer. I bought the syle A. its less than a quarter inch thick so yeah, no problem with rigging. (I've posted the exact link below but its really long and I don't know if you'll get there from that)The holes lined up nicely with the existing holes in the cabin roof and the hinge fitting goes on top of the plate, bolt the whole mess down (with your favorite sealer 5200 etc.) then put the mast back up.
