Oday 17 First year to not be in a slip. Plan to explore local lakes
Down sized from macgregor 26 to an Oday 17. She's a 1979 model and well cared for. Was looking for something I could handle better myself. Soooo excited to get her in the water but I am having a problem figuring out the rigging. There is only 1 piece that came with the boat that has a dead eye ( I think that's what it's called) with two pulleys and a line attached which seems to be long enough to be the mainsheet. I have spent hours online searching for a diagram of how this attaches and where. Any help?

Brian thanks for the reply. What does " there is no purchase in the system" mean?

Because the mainsheet goes up from the rear deck to the boom, then runs forward, and down to the jammer, then to you, actually, I guess it has a 2:1 purchase, or mechanical advantage. If it was like a Sunfish, and just came down from the boom to you, it would have no mechanical advantage. Even so, 2:1 purchase is minimal compared to some systems of 3:1 or 4:1.

Well, as a fellow 1979 DS II owner...... could I be of assistance? The 1975-85 DS II had a mid-boom mainsheet, earlier models had the older "crosby-style" mainsheet that rans through blocks on the corners of the transom.

Below is a pic of the mainsheet (not my boat, but it shows the way mine is rigged). It appears to me to be a 3:1 purchase.

I also attached a scan of the original rigging guide sheet, not as clear as I'd like, but I had to scan the 11" x 17" sheet in parts.

I have an expanded version of the manual with many added diagrams and pics. I can make a copy for you if you would like, contact me off-line for info (click on my screen name).

Myself, I favor this type of Mainsheet set up. It's fast and easy to use. I have a similar set up on a traveler on my O'Day 222 and I love it.
