My yard charges about $12 per foot of boat length for unstepping and stepping the mast before and after winter storage. (That's $360 for my 30 footer) Disconnecting and reconnecting the mast lights and radio antenna were always included in the price. When I added radar and an anemometer the rigger charged for additional labor for dealing with their wiring. The bill for disconnecting the these cables was $170 for two hours work. I can disconnect these things myself in about fifteen minutes so naturally I feel ripped off. Is anyone else paying these kinds of charges and how much?

Incredible.

Our marina on Lake Erie charges a flat $100. on each end, unstepping/stepping. Size and number of wires does not matter. My mast is keel-stepped, 50 feet long, and is a bear. So yes, I think that is a rip.

UN-stepping

I don't unstepp my mast during winter layup and all 100 plus boats do the same. unstepping of mast: $5.00/foot(add $1.00/foot with furlingjibs, thru deck installions, double spreaders and extra tall rigs)based on mast length. Inside storage is another $8.20/foot Winter haul, storage, sping launch.$34.00/foot Why do you unstepp the mast. nick

Re: unstepping

You should unstep your mast every 5 years and do a close inspection of the entire rig. The only reason for removing the rig is for that reason. If your yard is removing your rig and storing it year after year with no inspections they are simply 'making work' and you are paying needless money for it. I would not allow my yard to remove my mast and rigging without a good reason and then only after I OK it.

Our Marina's rates

Here are our marina's rates. $4.50 a foot for mast unstepping and re-stepping. Click on Link, then Rates and Contracts, then Rates and Fees. I never realized it was so convoluted to get to their rate list. I always get one in the mail every Spring. I highly recommend Racine Riverside Marine if you are on Lake Michigan.
