Would like some help/suggestions. I have been rigging a whisker pole with the jaws at the outboard end facing up. Today I read that this is okay for a spinnaker pole but not correct for a whisker pole - When sailing wing on wing the jaw of the whisker pole should be facing down. See the reference at Forespar .... http://www.forespar.com/catalog/whiskerpoles/about.htm#tips Any thoughts/suggestions or recomendations? Thanks James

Whisker Pole Jaws?

Can't imagine how you would put a jaw at the outboard end of a whisker pole. For years we used a simple spike. It went through the clew grommet, but you had to hold the sheet to the pole until the jaw was seated on the mast and a strain taken on the sheet. Currently the pole usually sports a clip just as a spinnaker pole does. And another clip to a ring on the mast. (If the ring is mounted on a track on the mast you have a little more adjustment.

Good info'

Thanks for the good info' (& link) James. I never gave it much consideration before, but Forespar's reasoning seems sound. Jean: I've had both types (bayonet & jaws), the Bayonet being on the much smaller (1" diameter) pole. See the pics @ http://www.forespar.com/catalog/whiskerpoles/nontel.htm
