Rigging a preventer on a H23.5

I spent the past week on an old Martin 29. I kinda liked being able to move the boom vang from the mast base to the toe rail as a preventer. The Martin's toe rail runs the entire length of the boat. How do people rig a preventer on a H23.5? There isn't much to attach to, except for maybe the stanchion eye where the mast raising bridals attach, but that would seem like an extremely bad idea. ...RickM...

Preventer Options

In light air I have used the stanchion eyes but I agree that ther may not be much strength there for more wind. A better choice is the bow cleat but that's a long way from the cockpit when single handing. The best choice so far has been the u-bolt chain plates.

Bow cleat

I hadn't thought of the bow cleat. Maybe it would work to run a line from the bow cleat to about the mast base with a loop at the end, and then attach the boom vang to the loop end. That would mean only going forward as far as the mast which you have to do anyway to reposition the vang. A bungie could attach near the loop end of the line to the mast so it would stay neat and not go overboard. ...RickM...

Boom kickers

I was thinking of a boom kicker for my 23.5 for the right price they seem expensive.
