Rigging a boom vang

Not much sailing experience here, but I am willing to go for it. I am resurrecting a DaySailer II that measures just under 17 '. There is no evidence to me of how to rig a boom vang. The boom appears to have two housings that look as if they were designed to receive a swedged end of a cord. One is located on the underside of the boom and the other is on the right side of the boom.

Boom vang

My daysailer is a 1983 model and it came with no provisions for a boom vang. I purchased pre-bent bails from West marine and pop rivited one to the boom and the other to the mast base just below the tabernacle. It sounds like your boom has an attachment point for a boom vang, but you need a similar attachment point at the base of the mast. As far as the boom vang it self, pre-maid units can be purchased from your local marina or a marine catalog. You can assemble one from the individual parts, but it will cost almost as much as the pre-maid ones. You don't need a swaged end to secure the boom vang line to the boom, snap shackles on both ends works great.
