Hey Everybody, I have a strong suspicion that I have a tall rig, but I'm not sure. I don't currently have a bow sprit, but my rig seems to be taller than a regular one. Without climbing the mast & actually measuring it, I thought I'd measure the boom & see if that told me anything. Does anybody know how long a Tall Rig's boom should be? Mine's 12'6". Thanks, Allen Schweitzer s/v Drambuie C-30 Hull# 632

specs.

Check out the link below on the C30 assoc. web site. The easiest way to measure the height of the mast is to tie a 50-foot tape to your halyard and haul it to the top. You should also tie a retrieval line incase the tape measure comes loose! The "I" on a standard is 41' and 43' on a tal rig. Hayden Watson 88 C30tr/bs

Allen-Racing?

Allen, you never did tell us how you did in the race you were preparing for. Did you get the new boom vang? How did it work out for you? I also have an older Cat30 and would be very interested in how you fared. ~~~_/)~~~ Sean

Sean, Thanks for asking. Unfotunately, I have a family event during Memorial Day weekend, so I won't be able to race in the Figawi. I'm definitely down for next year, though. I've decided to get the full running rigging upgrade from Garhauer & I expect to install it sometime after i launch in the late spring. I guess it's going to have to wait until next year, :-( I'll definitely keep you posted!! --Allen

Hi Allen- I can't tell you how long your boom should be but I can give you the dimensions your main sail should be depending on tall or standard rig. Following is what we have on the site: P = 37'6" (TR) or 35'6" (SR) and E= 12'(TR) or 11'6" (SR) The tall rig's main sail is two feet taller and 6 inches longer than the standard rig. The E dimension is the foot length of your sail. The other, the P, is the luff length on your mainsail. A quicker way for you get your answer however, might be to just call Catalina Yachts. When we bought our Catalina 36, we called them up with our hull number and asked them whether we had a TR or a SR. That solved our mystery. Karisa
