A SERIES of flood warnings were issued yesterday as a result of the tail end of Hurricane Hanna passing by the north coast.
Met Eireann said there will be heavy rain throughout the first half of today and more tomorrow, with the country expected to be hit with bouts of "exceptionally wet" weather.
The west of the country, especially coastal areas, is expected to have anything up to 50mm of rainfall by lunchtime today as a result of poor conditions which started yesterday.
"We have issued warnings for very heavy rainfall particularly to Munster and Connacht for the morning," said forecaster Vincent O'Shea.
"Between midnight and 3pm tomorrow we will be expecting up to 40mm across Munster and Connacht, perhaps not so intense over the Midlands and Dublin, but those areas could get in excess of 20mm."
As a result, it is expected that there will be flooding in many parts of the west. The AA has been issued with warnings of 25mm of rain across the country.
After a short break in the bad weather, the effects of Hurricane Hanna are expected tomorrow when the winds pass some 150 miles north-west of Donegal.
While Hanna has now been downgraded to a tropical storm, Met Eireann say there will be 20mm to 30mm of rain as a result of it moving from Nova Scotia across the Atlantic.
