My local tax office insists on knowing the weight of an H320 since they tax boats on weight. All I know is 8300 lbs. displacement. I suspect it's in the range of 10,000 to 12,000 lbs. but would love to know the correct answer. Thanks.

Well, I'd stay with the reported displacement

since you can and since it is factory documented information. On this site, it is reported as 8550 LBS. It should be in your manual or factory brochure. Also, boats don't get any lighter commissioned and outfitted. Short weighing it on a hoist with a short haul, I don't know how you'd confirm an actual weight. RD

BOAT WEIGHT

For all practical purposes displacement and weight are the same numbers. If the tax office doesn't like it you can tell them to weigh the boat themselves.

The displacement

..is the dry weight of the boat it does not include any fluids or gear. When you have your boat hauled the travelift operator can give you an exact weight with all the included gear.

use mgf spec

for displacement as weigh for tax reasons. First of all they are taxing the boat not all the other things on the boat. You have already paid taxes(or should have) on most everything else on the boat so using the actual weight will be like paying tax twice on everything else. Most tax offices will accept the boat manufacturers stated weight as opposed to actual weight. As some else stated unless you actually have the boat on a scale you are only guessing. Technically the displacement weight is the weight of the water that the boat displaces not the boat weight but as someone else said for practical purposes the actual boat weight and displacement weight are the same.
