...thanks for posting the pics of the masthead rig you made (even if we did get cheated out of one pic). You have given me inspiration to go ahead and mount my VHF which has been sitting in the box for two years. The photos don't show the top of the mast but it appears that your light wires and coax enter through the mast cap? I think this looks like a really neat installation but is there a reason you routed it this way rather than going through the side of the mast like I so often see? And...you promised to give us an update on the spinlock PX conversion. Well? Mark Kissel Kittiwake/98H240

Rick, is that a Standard antenna?

Rick, as long as you're answering questions... Is that a Standard antenna in your photos? I bought an H26 and the owner misplace the whip portion of the VHF antenna. The base is still attached to the mast. It is a Standard MAT100 antenna and I'd like to replace the whip with a section of wire, but don't know the length. How long is the whip portion on your antenna. Thanks Ron Mehringer Hydro-Therapy

This is really for Ron-

I have a Shakespeare 5215 on my H26 and the exposed length of the wire is 32-3/4 inches. You will need about 1 inch more or whatever the depth of the socket where the antenna is attached. You have my number so give me a call if you want to see the antenna I have as it is off my boat and here at home.

Thanks

There were already holes in the mast cap so I just used those. The mast light wires were already using one of them. As for the length on the antenna that sounds about right, don't they sell replacement whips, and doesn't the tip make some sort of difference in the way the energy radiates out? The PX cleats look good but I haven't been able to get anyone to go sailing since I finished it. We are all pretty busy with Mardis Gras parades and such so come on down and we'll try them out I'll buy the Moon Pies.

Spinlok's assesment

Rick & Mark, Practical Sailor has the full scoop on the Spinlok's Power Cleat in this Months issue. Mark I think I'm headed in that direction vs. cam cleats

Bill,

Let's try that again. The ease of releasing the sheet under load is making the PX very appealing to me. I'd like to hear from those that have used them for this purpose. I'm considering swapping mine out. Mark Kissel Kittiwake/98H240

Sailing vs Mardis Gras

C'mon Rick forget having fun & partying and drinking as we wait anxiously on your test on the spinloks. On second thought, if I lived where you do and could sail just about any time I wanted, I would party, drink, and have fun. Do you have an extra room???
