I am looking to buy a R19 CB to do a trip from Cape Cod to Michigan via the Saint Lawerance Seaway...I have a lot of experience sailing big boats. ...I have two questions...does anyone know of a person that has made a significant open water passage on an R19 and second how does the boat handle if swamped.....can she be self righted and bailed.

The Rhodes 19 cb is a fast little boat, but the ones I've seen do not have a self bailing cockpit. Even if you didn't swamp it, you'd be constantly bailing her out. I don't doubt that you could make this trip in a Rhodes 19, but if I were going to make a trip like that, I'd do it in a Mariner which is basically a Rhodes hull with a cabin and self bailing cockpit. If I was 20 years younger, I'd want to do a trip like that. When you do this I hope that you keep us posted. Good Luck!
