I was told by insurance company that I have to replace the solid core wire with stranded wire on the AC circuit in my '78 Hunter 30 in order to get insurance. My surveyor wrote this as a recommendation in the survey. Reason for both is not up to current standards. Has anyone done this, if so, how difficult? Any suggestions would be appreciated.

House Vs Marine

Solid electrical wire is used only in houses to carry the AC load. Good call on your surveyor.

Hi Dave, have done some wiring on our boat...

both AC and DC. I would think an H30 should not be that difficult to replace the AC solid core wire with stranded. As I recall our H28 had five or six AC duplex outlets. Head, aft cabin and two in the main cabin. The H30 maybe one or two more, not sure. I got my best wire deal from our local Interstate Battery dealer. Go with stranded tinned copper marine grade wire. You should be able to use the existing original wire to pull the new through. Also, the H28 shore power cord was hardwired into the main breaker panel. How is yours connected? Terry
