Last month I posted a problem here that I am having with not enough reverse thrust with a 7.5 hp Merc on an H22. I finally have the answer. I got the information from Bob Grubb at East Coast Marine (thank you Bob). Bob sent me a Merc bulletin that shows how to correct this problem. It involves drilling two holes. The bulletin is in pdf format. I will email the bulletin to anyone interested in the fix.

PDF file

The document was faxed to me. The electronic file that I have is a pdf file. It appears that he file needs to be a jpeg to post on this site. I'm not sure how to convert a pdf file to a jpeg. I'll see what I can do.

Converted file is too large

I managed to convert the file to a jpeg. However, the jpeg file is too large to be accepted by this server. When I make the jpeg file smaller by reducing the resolution, the picture is no longer readable (very poor resolution). I'll be glad to send the file to someone who may be able to make it presentable for this forum.

Must be an engineering breakthrough -please send

I would like to have that solution myself. My brother's 23.4 has the same problem. In the years past I have talked to prop rebuilders about that problem on my fishing boats and was told the main qualities designed into a prop, pitch, cup & edge shape could never give proportional thrust both directions without sacrificing most of the forward thrust. My 30 is so poor in reverse I've considered buying a kicker. By the way, the easy way to get pdf to jpg is print and scan. Send it my way and I'll get it back to you. R.A.B. boundsross@netscape.net

Reducing Pic Size

If you need to make an image smaller (reduce file size and/or resolution), there is a small freeware program that I have been using for some time with good results. At least, the price is right. It's called XNView and can be found at http://www.xnview.com/. It isn't fancy, but does some jobs well. You can tranform and image into other formats, do some minor editing, and change resolutions. Might be what you want.
