reverse on a 1980 27'

hello all,I've read in the reviews on this site that the 8hp Renault leave a lot to be desired as far as power, especially backing up, but I'm wondering if mine is even more inept than usual.my concern is that when I put it in reverse, the engine doesn't rev anywhere near as high as it does in forward. In fact, it barely does more than idle. That is to say that I can get some good rpm's going forward, but that when I'm drifting into my slip or anytime really, the boat hardly has any power at all in reverse- it seems like if the motor would rev higher, I could get a little purchase.Is that normal?

REVERSE RPMS

I would check to see the run of the throttle and shift cables. It could be that the anchor bracket inside your pedestal is loose and when you shift into reverse you are affecting the throw/range of your throttle.
