They finally launched my new-to-me Morgan 415 Out Island this weekend. I had it trucked to the new location and never had the oportunity to see the engine run prior to buying her. However, a reputable surveyor did take her on a sea trial and no mechanical problems were reported. I was surprised to find that the transmission would not engage the shaft in reverse unless the engine was revving quite a bit. I checked the transmission fluid and it is full. Does anyone have any ideas why the transmission will not go into reverse at idle speed?
The engine is a 1990 Perkins 4-cyl of approx 60 hp. The gear shifter and throttle are combined into a single lever. There are no issues with going forward.
