Oday 40 New Bern
Kukulcán arrived back in New London Friday evening, July 21st, after almost two weeks of enjoying and enduring life on the Sounds and the Bays, renewing old friendships and making new ones, as well as hosting family and friends. We encountered lobster pots and their associated buoys, thunder and lightning, hail, micro-bursts, groundings, swimming floor-boards, inoperative bilge pumps, wonderful sails, parties, gung-ho launch drivers, sailing with friends, partying with friends, sailing with family, missing old friends who have passed away, and putting a couple of hundred nautical miles under our slightly scratched keel. Then there was the tug/barge around CI that was kind enough to let me know I was MUCH too engrossed with the mentally deficient idiot blocking my communication on Ch 72, thus saving the day once again. Thanks to Peter Dodenhoff and Mike C, and how Pete managed to get RYC to comp the mooring fees will always be a mystery, but we DO thank him, and the Raritan Yacht Club for hosting us, (and we sent an email to the Commmodore to thank him and the club) and all the people and boats who made the event a success once again. Pat and I were so tickled to be able to host everyone on Kukulcán for the after-dinner sing-along, and I'll have to get out the roster to remember everyone who attended, including some whose boats were laid up but came anyway. And the surprise of finding Da Capo in Horseshoe Cove, when we all thought that mike was going to be an overlander. The to-do list is long and attention to various matters start today, such as figuring out where the break in the bilge pump line is-thank GOD for manual backups-where the leakage source is, and I am suspecting the rudder tube as a result of a very unpleasant, prolonged encounter with dragging a lobster pot some distance from New London to somewhere off Millstone Point, but will keep eveyone posted. We may not have had dancing on the fore-deck, but we're working on it for the future. We sailed in wonderful company, found a new dinghy at City Island, found our O28 still in place when we arrived, and the Admiral is promising a new dodger, a biminin and an anchor winch for next year! All this as long as I don't let the boat get "too tippy." A small price to pay for companionship and an extra pair of eyes (most of the time). So wherever next year's rOonDAYvous shall be, so shall we be there. Great sailing to everone for the rest of the season! Pat and Bill, O28(at ancor and needing a home)/O40, New London, CT

Second the motion

EmmieLou was back on her home mooring on Wednesday, the 26th, after a fine time at the rOnDAYvous and two weeks of harbor-hopping around western Long Island Sound. I'm hoping that everyone at the rOnDAYvous had a good time as well, especially the first-time attendees. Thanks to: Bill and Patty for hosting the SOS Band (and the entire rest of the rOnDAYvous delegation) aboard their O-40; Rich Hansen, for his tireless photo shooting; Richard, for concocting yet another memorable batch of Dark & Stormies; the Raritan YC, for their gracious hospitality; and the National Park Service, for not arresting me or my daughter in the "Horseshoe Cove Incident". More information on this year's rOnDAYvous will be posted online in various sites before long, I'm sure. The floor is open for suggestions as to where to hold the 2007 event. Pete s/v EmmieLou (O-322) Little Silver, NJ
