Retrofitting an arch

I have recently purchased an 87 hunter 40 legend which has the traveller in cockpit. I'm curious if anyone has fitted an arch, like those in more recent models, to an older model like mine.
If so, how did it work out?! Did you have to bulk up the glass or do any mods to the boat aside from fabricating the arch.

Thanks!

Hi Ryan, welcome to the forums!

I'll leave more detailed answers to our users who know more about it, but the deck form is designed differently to accommodate the weight of the arch and the load it bears. So there would definitely be some major glass work to do, but I don't know how it is reinforced or how it integrates with the structural components of the hull, which I assume it must. It would be a big project to add a Hunter-style arch.

And with that bit of vague, worthless, internet wisdom, I'll let other, better minds weigh in. :yikes:

Thanks Phil! I suspected there would be some reinforcement needed. I hope to hear from some folks who have had this done, ideally from the factory as it's my understanding that they used to offer this service. They no longer do, as that was my first call. They don't appear to support the older legend boats now sadly.
