Does anyone have a do-it-yourself option for fitting a screen into the hatch of a 28 ft O'Day? Also, the previous owner put a screen up using self sticking velcro and the glue from the velcro is melted on the gelcoat from the heat and the length of time it was on. I tried Goo Off, that did not work. Any suggestions?

Varsol? Paint thinner? Surely acetone with a razor blade.
I'm surprised the goof off didn't work, I thought it's pretty harsh.
My hatch screen is put on the same way: peel-off velcro. It's how my buddy's powerboat screens go on too. It's held on well for over a decade, with some corner areas pulled away. Maybe it's just time for me to replace the velcro due to age-failed adhesive. I surely don't plan to change the system.

Yikes- Once you get off the glop, don't bother with fitted hatch screens. Just ger some fine mesh cloth or fiberglass screening about 3 times the size of the hatch and sew some light chain into the edge. Then just toss the whole thing over the forward hatch or any opening. The hatch can open to any position and the screeining doesn't need to be attached to anything. The weight of the chain will seal it to the deck. Will work with any opening on the boat, and is simple and cheap. Also easy to store. Just crumple up put anywhere in any shape space. Worked for me for last 40 years Ernie Schlesinger
