Retractable Keel wont go down

I have tried several times to put the keel down, but, it wont go down. Why not?

only 2 things I can think of. Either the release mechanism of the winch isn't working and not allowing the cable to un-wind, even with the handle turning, or there may be a build up of marine growth in the trunk preventing the keel head from swinging up into the trunk. The laws of gravity say the 600 lb. keel should go down. Looks like you'll have to haul out and inspect to find out. good luck

hello sreve,in addition to what Charlie suggests, there may be a deep groove worn in the keel surface made by the lock down bolt. It may be that the keel locking bolt is hold- ing the keel. john
