I just took owner ship of this boat, I have a lot to learn. In looking over the boat one of my conserns is the keel,I wonder how to check the point where the Keel swings at for wear. The other is their an easy way to lift and let down the mast> Any help would be very much apreciated. I am very new to all of this. Thank you John Jross@broncus.com

Diver or haul it out

Dear John, I recently hauled my boat out to paint the bottom. Just bought the boat a few months ago. It was pretty obvious the amount of wear I had. Assuming your boat is in the water year round you probably have a diver, he could maybe use a flashlight or give it a big jiggle to see if there is any play. I was actually very happy to haul my boat out as it was the first time I got to see my hull. I put up a post with a photo of the pivot shaft area of my c22. Also, when I had the boat out of the water I replaced the swing keel cable, clamps and roller ball. Now I am going to save up and haul it out again to replace the keel bolts and brackets. Refinish the keel pivot area and install the keel shim kit. Oh and my keel keeper bolt was never loosened or tightened, pretty much rusted in place, so it wore a groove in the keel and is now bent so I will be replacing that too. My wife tells me that this is what she expected. Good luck.
