When and if can you sail through the restricted area south of Santa Rosa island Fla. Not knowing we sailed around this ay night going to Mobile Bay. Took forever. This was our first excursion into the Gulf and learning curve is way up. Thanks

The warning/restricted area will have a para number in the "note" that references the coastal Pilot paragraph

The area south of Santa Rosa island is a military practice firing area. Sounds dangerous, but the AF gunships and other shooters that use that area take precautions before doing any live firing. If there are any vessels in their target area, the mission is moved to a vacant area.

Still pretty scary thinking some about some trigger happy gunner stating after pulling the trigger," oh sh#t, there's a boat out there!!"

Don't worry if they don't want you there they'll get your attention and tell you to get out.

When I was a gunship crewmember, I remember the navigator saying, as we came into the target area in the middle of the night, to use our sensors to scan the ocean for a 5 mile radius for any boats. The standard comeback was, "Why don't we save some time and just use the self-clearing method: Fire off a few rounds". Needless to say, we always spent the extra time to make sure the area was clear.
