Hunter 22 Lake St. Clair, Mi.
I own a 1981 H22 and have had the boat for 3 sailing seasons.
All of the wood is in need of some serious restoration. I just pulled Her out of
the water ( Michigan weather ) and would like to spend some over the winter
working on bringing the teak back to brite.
First, when I pull the screws out of the cabin top hand rails, are there any nuts
or any other type of retainer that will fall into oblivion in the cabin top?
Any source for replacement teak plugs?
Last. The downhaul pulley in the rudder box is pretty much wasted. West Marine
doesn't know if any that they have will be a match. I should "order one of each
and send back what doesn't work". Their words. Any help?
Pulley about 24mm dia. (.95 in.), mounting holes C-C 58mm (2.28 in.)
Thanks in advance. JB.

On our H25 there are no visible fasteners inside the salon so my assumption on it will be that the screw holding the hand rail either threads in to a nut molded in the the core or is just a screw in to the hull. So, if there are no visible fasteners inside then yours may be like ours.

If you do a search on ebay you can find teak plugs pretty cheap.

Generally, if you do not see any nuts on the inside cabin ceiling, then you are generally pulling out machine screws which you can tell when removing. Once done, I would remove the wood and then remove all sealant from the bottom of the wood and deck. If any of the screws do not hold, then you will need to repair that hole. I would go ahead and treat the wood to include cleaning, staining and any other application making sure you also coat the bottom as well as water has a tendency to seep up thru the bottom which is why I suggest treating that area too. When reattaching, liberally apply caulk and let it ooze out. Also coat the screws with caulk as well. Wipe away using alcohol for clean up purposes. Measure the hole that the screw goes in. Then purchase the teak plugs as one respondent said from a good marine store. Suggest this site's store and if they do not have them, West Marine certainly does. You may have to sand them a little to make them fit. They need to seat snug but not so big to split the wood.

as for the pulley, like one respondent said, a picture of it would be helpful.
