I am an adult advisor for our Veture Crew (Boy Scouts of America) 508 and we are the proud owner of 2 Oday 22's. Our group consists of 12 boys and girls between 15 and 19 years old. Our group has become involved with sailing through the Kenosha Yacht Club in kenosha, Wisconsin and together we are invloved with the local school district in providing introductary sailing exposure to underprivilaged kids. Our first boat is ready for painting!!! The big question regards the interior. We would like to do somthing with the interior bulk-head to make more room inside. Is the entire port-side bulk-head structural or just the central post or is neither structually important? There is considerable debate if this element provides bracing for the mast. Any recomendations would be greatly apprecitated.

Thank-you for your input!! Our objective was to extend the port-side bench over the space where the toilet was. It was removed long before we received this boat. Also to make movement forward a bit easier. Thank-you so much for your warning before we did something terrible

Sailing with the BSA! Sounds great! I was never a member of a really good troop with access to things like that. Anyway, I am also the owner of a 22 and have stripped it to the hull and rebuilt it (or am in the process of rebuilding it). I agree 100% with what Erik said, those bulkheads are structural. The chainplates for the shrouds should be bolted through them. I have many pictures of my project, Cassidy, viewable through the link at the end. When are you painting? What paint do you plan on using? I would love to see the photos of that project. I think my boat would come along a bit quicker if I had a troop of scouts to sand everything! Good luck
