My wife and I are in the process of restoring a '63 Mariner from top to bottoms. We have recently replaced all the stringers including new keel bolts etc.... now its time to sand and paint. What will get cracks out of the topsides.......and what is a good paint to use on the hull? Any help would be very valuable!

Fairing

Tony - Nothing gets cracks out - you'll need to fill them. Unless they're truly hairline you'll need to grind them out slightly then fill with thickened epoxy and sand fair. Really fine cracks you can put epoxy mixture over and just sand but err on the side of grinding them out. Then use a high build primer like Brightside by Interlux. Apply and sand fair again. Then finally you can apply color coats. I would use a linear poly with the roll and tip routine. Justin - O'day Owners' Web
