resetting breakaway

I need to reset my surge brake breakaway lever. can any one out there direct me to a web site that might be of help?

SURGE BRAKE

Larger boat trailers have separate brakes, some are electric but most are surge. There is a breakaway chain attached which will apply the brakes if the trailer should come loose.

What is the position of the lever now? I think mine also has the same problem. On mine, the lever angles back, touching the fluid reservoir cap. I'm not sure if that is where it's supposed to be or not. I jacked up one side of the trailer and the wheels turn, but I still wonder about that lever. Anyway, I was told by the builder to simply use a large screwdriver (or some such tool) to compress the spring and at the same time, reposition the lever.

Hi flks, sorry bout the "Test" in the post before, I was not able to get it to post anything for several days. Try this link. It is from one of the trailer manufactuers and you can download a scematic and parts list of the various most common brake actuators. Hope it helps! Jack
