Wow! Any knowledge on the circumstances that created this grounding? Bad weather or what? Kudos to the helpers doing obviously dangerous work.

I'm surprised the officials weren't there chasing the citizens away for their well being. Ya know to serve and protect.
The citizens did good. I'm hoping there was a anchor dropped out as far as it could off the bow to help pull oneself off the beach. Obviously, nobody was holding a halyard to help hold the mast down and keep the keel up. It seemed she wanted to float but the keel flipped. Good work guys. Beer all around.
Thanks

Keep it up,
Ctskip

Typical 'hospitality' when in North Carolina ....
Great story.

where do I know Donna Lange from?
She sailed around the world a couple years ago just a very few years after taking up sailing. She lost her self steering gear in a gale off Bermuda near the end and steered 36 hours straight bringing her 28 footer in safely in conditions where large ocean going yachts with crews full of big strong guys have been on the radio wimpering for the choppers to come get them. Some gal.

The legend of Nags Head ...

Duck & Corolla is just to the north of Kitty Hawk and Nags Head, part of North Carolina's storied Outer Banks. Back in the day, as legend has it, when the OBX was a lawless place, the locals would hang lanterns from horses necks and lead them along the tops of sand dunes to create the illusion of sailing vessels bobbing in the water. Thus the name 'Nags Head'. Unsuspecting ships would be lured into the shallow surf zone and their cargo would be looted. The shipwrecked victims would be absorbed into the local population, possibly finding the remote isolation of the OBX to their liking.

Donna may have been the latest victim, but it seems that vacationers came to here rescue! ;)

I am always amazed at what a dozen strong men or women can do when they work together.
