Thank you. Have read entire content but cannot find confirmation that all hands abandoned the yacht.

Can you help on this point?

4 removed from ...
family removed from...
boat inoperable. without steering without engine and with ripped genoa.
sick baby.
what was missed

granted it took me 4 hours to determine what was actual and what was rumor, soooo... you got what i got . other stories are all over interwebz...each coming up with similar answers, as baby seems to have been healthy and passed health check before departure (per his friend)
i first heard from a friend in maryland...east coast news as well as west had it plastered all over. the newest of the reports state 4 removed.

i was sent many messages,as i have been object of his cyberbullying spree he started when i left san diego a year before he did

out of 8 articles, 4 said 4 and one said family went off boat... personjally,k as i amnot exactly there, i am remote, i didnt count heads. i left that to uscg, presuming they knew how to count as well as rescue.

This is not the time to criticize. Let's keep the family in our thoughts.

I willl not offer any opinion of the parental wisdom of taking a baby offshore. I am rather upset at the rescue costs that we will all wind up paying. Taking an ill crewmember on such a voyage without first insuring their health with other than the opinion of Jim's Clinic in a third world country is wreckless. This type of adventure is hazardous enough without adding bravado to the mix.

I don't think these types of adventures would even happen without bravado.

Heck, starting a family these days takes bravado.

I also wonder what the fuel costs are, but it's too late now. The rest we've already paid for.

Now in my 70's i often wish that i had more often thrown caution to the wind and followed my heart. I bet you most people would have to admit this is true. Most of us let the world run us, bending our plans and postponing our dreams until circumstances are some how more favorable. These people went unafraid following a dream. Not complaining as i have had many adventures but i admire this kind of spunk. None of knows their planning or rational so lets just all ask God to bless this family and keep them safe and well.

even though im not part of the cruising world, being a parent and a grandparent i wouldnt take an incompetent adult sailing much less a baby who should be able to trust her parents to keep her safe. i am glad it ended well---we have enough other bad news to be haunted by.

Like Terry, I see some of those "sailing the world" dreams sailing the away. But I've been fortunate and have traveled a lot. But to pack up and set sail with your young family takes real spirit. It's a little bit of the spirit that made this country great.

About the cost of the rescue...... #1 Thank God we live in a country that doesn't think twice about the cost of a rescue. #2 if that was YOU or your kid and grand kids out there, would you worry abt costs? It's what we do.
