All,

First off, I have been a lurker for quite a while, holding onto the dream of throwing it all away for the open seas. I have been living vicariously through all of your stories and posts, so thanks for that.

Secondly, I need some help, and I figure some of you might be able to assist.
I am currently a lake sailor in Colorado (read...landlocked) and have the opportunity to upgrade my current Hunter 23.5 to a Hunter 310, for little to no cost. Long story short, my Father is passing his 310 down to me. Anyhow, he lives in Denver, NC on Lake Norman. All I need to do is pay for decommissioning, shipping, and commissioning once the boat gets here to Colorado.

Have any of you worked with (or can recommend) a reputable shipper that could bring the 310 out to me? I have searched the web and there are several shippers, but I am leery since I know nothing about the process or costs. I would rather spend a few extra bucks and ensure a safe and timely delivery than go with the cheapest company out there.

If it were me, I'd also talk with the managers at your local marinas. They are the ones who inherit all the problems caused by shippers sending boats to their yards for commissioning and will know who are the best/worst at properly delivering boats in the area.

Isn't that fairly near Zebulon NC? I'd give crazy Dave a call and get his recommendations on that. He is involved with American Marine Sail; 919-404-1550 and knows a TON about Hunters, buying & selling, commissioning, transporting etc.

I may be crazy but from what I have read I BoatUS you goys have spme amazing waterways back east. They recently featured The Great Loop. Would it be possible to sail it as far west as possible and then truck it to Colorado Springs?
What a great way to see the country.

Remember it's called the Great Loop for a reason. You'd need to go either far north or south to get to a point where it would save you transporting her west. Lots of time and money just to get her to that point. Not a bad thought though.
