No Direct Replacement for 2QM
Thanks for the inputs. Unfortunately it has been many years since the Yanmar 2QM20 was manufactured and the cost to rebuild is not that different than the cost for a new engine (assuming that a mechanic does the rebuild). The engine is built like a tank with massive amounts of cast iron. Frankly, my first choice is to keep it running but a 1978 seawater cooled engine, no matter how stout, is not going to last forever. I understand that the Universal 25 will drop right into rails fabricated for an Atomic 4 but the Yanmar 2QM20 mounts and rails are vastly different than the Atomic 4. The existing mounts are 17 inches side to side and 17 inches fore to aft. Has anyone had experience fabricating new rails/mounts? What process did you go through to make sure that everything would line up after the engine was mounted?Kirby
