Repowering

Lauri from Finland asked about repowering.
I agree with the people who feel that the one-cylinder engines
are a little to low in power. The 2-cylinder would be better, for
example the Yanmar.
As I mentioned some weeks ago, about 1990 we repowered with
the one-cylinder Volvo, 9 HP. At first it was okay, although we
never reached hull speed. As it aged and suffered some abuse,
it lost power, and now we are definitely under-powered. If doing
again, would get the 2 cylinder Yanmar. One factor in choosing the
small Volvo engine was that there was a hand crank. However I could
never get it to start on the crank. The high compression of the new engine
makes it too hard, even using the decompression lever.

Hello
All:

I have
to put in my two cents worth. Has anyone contacted the Albin Motor Company to
find out what the cost of a new gasoline engine would be? There is nothing wrong
with gas. The engines are smaller, lighter and powerful. They are two cylinder
and easy to start by hand. Parts are readily available and the technology is
simple and efficient.Check it out.

Cheers
