This year will complete my complete refit of my 1985 Pretorien and now it is time to grasp two prickly nettles. I am repowering and repainting. I would love to find out if anyone has repowered using either a Volvo Penta (the latest engine seems to be the D1030) or Yanmar (3YM30) or the French NANNI (3.30?) My initial instinct was to go with Volvo since I hope to keep a similar mounting arrangement in place. But the Yanmar is lighter, probably cheaper, and they are ubiquitous in US marinas and yards. My yard manager is impressed with the Nanni (Kubota block) diesel, but this is relatively unusual engine; albeit one that uses very common engine parts from Kubota tractors, etc. Also, I am going to repaint and fix about 35 vertical gel coat cracks that are in the dark green sheer stripe which we believe to have been caused by post curing and (perhaps) overly thick gel coat at manufacturing. There seems to be no structural problem, only cosmetic. Has anyone seen these before in their Pretoriens?
