Repower with Bukh?

Someone on this site once touted the merits of the Bukh diesel. I think there was a Texas source. I found a Canadian distributor and checked the specs on their website(link below). I understand that the price is significantly less($2000?) than Yanmar for the same HP. But the fuel consumption seems much higher than what I read here, over 1 gal./hour. I can't compare with my own 2QM20 because I motor so little that I don't bother to measure. Does this sound high to you?

That Does Sound High, Ed..

2.11 GPH is almost a gallon more than what I burn with my 50hp Yanmar at 2800 RPM pushing a L40.5. (1.4 GPH) FWIW, it sounds a bit heavy too, although I understand it is supposed to be a pretty meaty engine.

That's higher than my Atomic 4...

Which is unusual. However, the stat on that website is at max ouput. Its cruising consumption of 1.24 still sounds high, but not enough to keep my from buying it, considering how little you motor. Good Luck, Rob

Da Bukh...

Ed, if I was repowering I would consider them. These Danish diesels have been around a long time and have proven their reliablity, mainly in Europe. Crinan marine is a reputable dealer, and I have dealt with them on several occasions, with excellent service. They support many other less than mainstream engines including the Vire. I would think you should get a good price as they are priced in Canadian dollars. Perhaps you have been to the Bukh website? But I have included it here. Don
