I'd like feedback from others regarding repowering ' '79 Cat 30 to desiel. What engine have you installed, and have you been happy or otherwise with the outcome. Replacing atomic 4. All advice welcome
You will want to plan your attack very carefully.1. how much power do you want? A) what is the hull speed of the C-302. How gear, cargo and people do you normally carry. My guess is you will need around 18 HP to push it around 6 knotts cruise.Check out the universal for a low speed engine or the Yanmar for high speed diesel.Good luck Bob
Just FYI, my Cat 30TR is powered by a Universal 51-11 diesel with the standard 2 blad prop. This allows me a comfortable 5.5 knot cruise and about a 6.5 knot top end. Not too shabby. Plus it burn almost no fuel. I recently powered for almost 12 hours straight and burned less that 3 gallons of fuel.
