Repower for Beneteau 473

Beneteau 473 Hamburg
Hello all,
we've attempted an engine rebuild of our original Perkins Sabre M65 that came with out 2002 build Beneteau 473. Unfortunately, we have been scammed. The guy didn't just take a good deal of our money but also stole some engine parts and destroyed others in the process - he did not perform any repair or rebuild ... Anyhow, we're now looking into re-power options and are very interested in hearing from people that have re-powered their 473.

We've read that re-power entails a lot of changes to the boat such as new prop, potentially shaft, gear-box, mounts, changes to the physical layout etc.. It also appears that new engines are usually electronically controlled. Has anyone done a successful re-power in your 473's? How much work / changes was actually invovled? What type of engine did you replace / with what?

Thanks a lot in advance!

Best,
Sina & Benny

Sorry to hear that's an expensive misfortune. Beta Marine would be a good choice , they have most likely have the setup for your boat using existing prop and shaft.

I thought they had Yanmar engines in the US -- as I recall? Did you check that?
