In Jan I asked if anyone had replaced their forestay Turnbuckle on a H23 (wing keel) The turnbuckle is in the anchor locker. I appreciate the 2 replies I had which indicated that West would have them. Truth is I can't find them at West. The body is 4 3/16", add 1" for each threaded piece when fully closed and the closed dimension is 6 3/16". When fully opened (threaded end screwed in 1"), the open dimension is 8 3/16". Also, the forestay is 3/16" and the pin size is 5/16". It holds the pin from the CDI furler. Any additional thoughts/experienced -or part # would be appreciated. Gary Bridi

Replace theTurnbuckle

I am new to this thread so please be patient. I have a 1987 wing-keeled H-23 so I am familiar with that stupid turnbuckle in the locker arrangement. I have beem trying for years to figure out a better way,but not without spending nearly $100. As for your problem, you may replace the turnbuckle with anyone with the proper fitting (jaw and eye?) for the stemhead fitting. Use a Staylock fitting to fasten the new turnbuckle to the forestay. You may have to get one of the threaded ends of the turnbuckle extra long to make up for cutting off the swage fitting. Extra long rods are available from Staylock. Good luck Keith Smoot S/V Gwaihiar

Thanks - more ideas welcome

Thank you for the suggestions - I will call Rigging and also call CDI. I did find one in the Johnson catalog, but the closed length may be a tad too long. I wonder if I could cut off about 1/2" on each end and rethread it??
