Repositioning of speed & clutch levers

I'm in the process of moving the speed and clutch levers from the lower port cockpit wall, up onto the steering pedestal of my 81 C30. Thought it was time to let the skin grow back on my left ankle this summer! I've ordered the parts from Edson and was just wondering if anyone else out there has done this conversion. I know I will have to change the cables as they will now run down the pedestal, bend almost to 90 towards the stern and then circle back towards the engine and trans. I'm a little at a loss as how to measure for new cables. Is there a general rule of thumb for doing this, "measure twice and then add 2 feet" type of thing???? I've emailed Edson for their ideas but thought I might throw this out to you guys also. Thanks for any thoughts on this. Ron s/v Seascape

Engine controls

Ron; If you're going to all this trouble, you may want to check out a single-lever control. They're great!

Let us know how it goes

Ron, I've thought of doing the same mod many times. I too have skinned ankles. I'd be really interested to know how you get on. Please e-mail me at someday@shaw.ca if you succeed. Hope the job goes well. Thanks

Single lever

Hi Larry, Have you installed a single lever control on a 30ft Catalina? It would certainly make life easier in the long run even if installation is harder, I can see the pay off. Can you give me a bit more info. Contact me please at someday@shaw.ca Much appreciated. Steve

single-lever controls

Steve; When I had my '82 C-30 with a 5411, it had the separate controls on the pedestal. The throttle was done so to increase RPM the throttle lever was pulled back toward the operator. The two levers and the backward throttle confused new crew when I had to go forward. I thought of reversing the cable over a sheave or something, but never did it. When I bought my Beneteau, it had a single-lever control that shifted the trans and applied throttle in the direction you wished to go. It was much more intuitive. I love it. FWIW, I've seen kits advertised to convert dual-lever controls to single-lever, but I've never installed one.
