Is anyone able to report on how boats in South Shore Harbor in New Orleans or Oak Harbor in Slidell are doing after the storm? Probably will be a couple of days before we can get back into South Shore Harbor and just wondered if anyone has access and can give us an update. News from any where around Lake Ponchartrain would be appreciated.

SS Status

Will try to check later. The water was seen over the seawall near West End but but news crews got in on TV to SS itself. What slip are you in?

Pier 3 - slip 12 East

I am worried because so many people didn't get in to prepare their boats, so those of us that did had boats close to us with full canvas up and light lines - not what you want to see? Did the TV say whether the roads so you can get in?

According to the Harbor Master's Office the gates will open sometime between 12 and 1. We'll be there for that time and will check your slip. Got an email?

One report to us

The man checking out boat in Oak Harbor Marina called this morning with an update. He had not been to the boat yet this morning, but lives nearby and has his boat at this house. He said that water rose 2-3ft and gusts were about 40. So not awful. He will call us later after he has been able to check the boat.

Northshore

I have checked on my boat in Mandeville. Water was up about 3 feet, but no damage whatsoever. Radio is still reporting flooding along the Lakeshore on the New Orleans side around West End. Don't know first hand. We dodged a big bullet in this area.

Reality

Reality and neighbors seemed fine. Only major damage anywhere was a Chriscraft that went under. Some Boats took damage to rub rail joints, but overall damage was minimal. Water was still just over the catwalks noonish but slowly dropping. There was some evidence that it maxed near the height of the piers. A few piers had broken water lines. They might have been from flotsam in the harbor or from a few bows beating on them.

Petunia is fine

She's come through unscathed and bone dry in the bilge. Slowly going down to normal there. Afternoon winds were in the teens to 20's in the marina. *5

Recenlty bought a 35' Coronado that's in Oak Harbor. The harbor master said the marina did OK. A guy that's looking after my boat (the previous owner) said he'd take care of it, and let me know if anythign was amiss.
