Replacment of holdiong tank

My holding tank is finnaly starting to leak, I rememebr that a couple of Legend 37's also replaced their holding tank by cutting a hole in the bulkead by the nav table. Is this correct?? What tank did you replace it with???How long of a job is this???Tim gabrielseLegend 37BLAZE

Holding Tank Replacement

Did it! So far so good. We did a major renovation this spring. 1. Removed the Water Tank in the V Berth 2. Removed holding tank under countertop in Head by cutting it up in bits and pieces and removing them through the vanity cabinet doorway. In my view, there is no way of getting the existing holding tank out in one piece, even if one would cut a hole through the bulkhead. The poly tank is foamed in to the point where it is impossible to free up and remove. 3. Reconfigured new water tank together with new holding tank to fill in V Berth area. (Custom Stainless Steel Tanks) 4. Replumbed waste line from head to new holding tank and repositioned new discharge and vent in the bow portion of the boat. Our reason for doing the above was to add badly needed capacity to the holding tank.

Did it last year

Our holding tank was leaking and smelling very badly last year. I hired the local boad yard to replace it. They were able to remove the door and front of the vanity and all the hoses so they could remove the old tank with out tearing out the bulkhead to the nav station. They then had a new aluminum tank fabricated and slid it back in and connected every thing back up. The good news was that they did not have to remove the bulkhead. The bad news was that it was expensive. $2k. including the custom tank. If I were to do it again, (which I probably will because its aluminum) I would now try to locate a poly tank and try to do the same thing and save the price of a custom aluminum tank.Good Luck
