Hi everybody, new member and boat owner. My husband and I just purchased a 23.5 Hunter and the uphaul keel line needs to be replaced. I've been reading the forums and they are great! One question, the manual calls for a 7/16 line... is that a standard yachting rope? Thank you!!

Thank You Whatfiero! I couldn't find a straight answer. Somewhere I saw something about cable and thought maybe it was a braided wire/rope type cable. Thank you again!

The uphaul line for the centerboard is 7/16 and stay away from 1/2 inch line.

When we purchased our 240 the previous owner stated he had recently had the uphaul line replaced. We found the board almost impossible to raise during our first few attempts. I had the center board removed to check for binding and found that the wrong size line ( 1/2 ) was installed. Installed 7/16 and it raised much easier. Listen to Dave, he knows these wb hunters best.
The ends were sealed with a heat slice gun at the store. If you have to cut, put tape wrapped around tightly and cut with a sharp knife and then seal the end with heat to include matches, lighter, etcc. I made a flame thrower to do that for me and laughed when folks stood back.
Wrenchbender, that's interesting! The previous owner said he had the same problem stiff keel) after having the keel bracket replaced in '08. I wonder if that shop used the wrong sized rope?
