Troops My co-owner and I have discovered a corroded u-bolt on the starboard side rear, which holds half of the split backstay to the deck, aka a chainplate of sorts. On attempting to replace it, we ran in to a huge problem: we cannot, with any normal effort, free the u-bolt from it's assigned spot. We are able to unscrew the nuts and remove the washers no problem, from underneath through the rear locker. However, even after hammering, pounding, screwing, spraying with lubricant and corrosion eating chemicals, the u-bolt has not so much as budged! We are truly afraid that if we bang on it any harder, we risk damaging the fiberglass that makes up the hull-deck joint, which of course would create some other problems. Is there something we're missing? Is there some mystery glue in there, or a hidden nut somewhere, or is this just the result of 20 years of corrosive elements? And if so, what the hell do we do now? Thanks in advance, Ron Vanderveer
