I have a Panda PMS 6000 ND generator in my H49 that the starter is no longer functioning. All the diagnostics indicate that the problem is either the starter solenoid/bendix or the starter itself. Has anyone replaced their starters? If so are there any helpful hints to reduce the pain.

Starters certainly can die. They can be checked at an auto electrical shop. I’ve dealt with the starter on my Perkins 4.107.
First check was to assure adequate Voltage at the terminals. Weak voltage will not enable the bendix to engage.
Mine had two bolts on the engine side that were a bugger to remove or install. Needed a deep socket with an extension and a drive wrench with 5 degree throw. My standard socket wrench did not work.
I’d look at the solenoid and the contacts before removing the starter.

Replacing starters is pretty straightforward basic mechanical work. First disconnect the cable at the battery. There will be a couple of bolts holding it on, disconnect the wires, (take a photo so you can remember where they go) unbolt it and reverse the process with the new starter.
The engine is Kubota Z/482 so shop at a Kubota tractor dealer for parts. There should be a part number on the old starter.
