I'm trying to replace the galley faucet fixture because the base is leaking. Unfortunately, I'm not finding enough clearance underneath the sink to use a wrench on the metal nut. The original fixture may have been installed before the entire sink unit was dropped into place. Does anyone have any ideas? Thanks

Basin Wrench!
Do you guys know what a Basin Wrench is? They are made to do exactly what you are trying to do. If you go to your favorite hardware store you can purchase on of these. Most of the new faucets have plastic wing type nuts so you probably will not need it when you get the new faucet. I replaced mine a year or so ago with a Moen from Home Depot. It was a little more expensive than the marine varitey but a lot better quality. They are usually 4" centers for Bar Sinks.

Is there a basin wrench large enough, Steve? The nut is larger than the standard nut and a standard basin wrench will not fit.

Yes basin wrench is big enough.
When you see a basin wrench you will understand how it works. It not like anything you have seen and called a wrench. It simply has a swinging arm that is notched. The bottom is notched also and the two pieces together turn the nut. Hard to explain but you can get a basin wrench in places your hand can't go.

Scandvik I presume!
Paul: I must presume that this is one of the Scandvik Galley faucets. It is a single hole in the counter with all of the pipes in one hole. I would still check with the hardware or plumbing supply for a wrench. It is probably just as easy to remove the sink and use a big cresent wrench.

Steve, I'm familiar with a basin wrench (I own one), but I once wanted to replace my galley faucet and found the nut too big to do with a standard basin wrench. That's why I ask because I've never seen any other size wit a clamp large enough to wrap around the big nut that I'm speaking of. I hope this answers "Steve of Middle River's" question.

I took the sink out
Steve, I had the same problem and not being a contortionist, I chose to remove the sink basin as an easier solution. Not a simple thing but easier on the back. I'm still not satisfied with the faucet I put in. The spigot does not reach far enough over the sink.

Just a suggestion.
Bob: I had the same problem(spigot not reaching far enough). I bought one of those nice two function swivel sprayer heads to replace the aerator. Works great and can spray any part of the sinks.
